Kaitao Powhiri Practise

Yesterday Kaitao gathered on the Astro turf at 12.15 to have a practice powhiri for the opening of the school hall this Friday. As in a normal powhiri the girls sat in the fount and the boys sat at the back. Whaea Te Arohanui was the teacher in charge she made the boys stay behind because they where not doing there best. We sang songs like The Karanga, He Honore and the Haka.
The reason for this practice was for the opening of our new school hall. Which is being officialy opened on 12th of June (this Friday) and Ms Soloman did not just want to put us on the spot and make us sing so she is being nice and letting us have a few practices. Thanks Ms Soloman. Kapa Haka girls are in fount of the girls and kapa Haka boys are in fount of the boys and they lead us.

The Hall Process

The (almost) finished hall :)

This is the hall from the back where all the teared seating will be put in sometime soon.

Rotorua Marathon

The Rotorua marathon was an event that started on Saturday 2 May. Kaitao had two water stations the first and the second 20 students helped with the water stations (ruffly 10 students for each water station). One station was positioned on Fairy Spring Road and the other one was positioned out at Ngongotaha.

When the runners/walkers came through you held the cup of water on the palm of your hand and they would come and basically rip the cup out of your hand but they said thank you so that was nice.

Speech Competition Term 2

This term (term 2) here at Kaitao, we are having the speech competitions!
Yay! Students are able to pick any topic for their speech. If I remember correctly, the speeches have to be approximately 3 minutes long. There will be a Year 7 Speech Competition and a Year 8 Speech Competition. Last year our Year 7 winner was Rochelle from the Accelerate Academy, and ourYear 8 winner was Rebel from the Expressive Academy.

The Inside Of The Hall.

Our new hall should take about 3 more weeks and it will be complete!
Caitlin, Eleanor & I have just been into the inside of the new hall. Its not complete yet, but we were loving the bold red colours!

Our New Hall

Here at Kaitao we are in the midst of getting our new hall. The exterior is basically done, and now they're working on the interior. The hall is almost completed.
By Term 2 the hall should be finished.
They are still thinking of something to open our new hall with. It was going to be one of Mr. O'Rourke's famous productions. But the plans are still being decided.
Here are a few pictures of the hall on 8th April.
This is how much progress has been made.
